LSU had an abyssmal night at the plate. They went 0.176 (6/34) on the evening and went 0/4 with runners in scoring position. Mason Katz got the Tigers lone earned run in the 4th inning, hitting a solo home run off of Mizzou's starting pitcher Rob Zastryzny. LSU managed to get one more run in the 8th inning when Raph Rhymes reached on an error and Andrew Stevenson scored from third.
The two runs would be enough because starter Aaron Nola had his best performance on the mound this season. Nola threw a season high 7 2/3 innings, striking out 10 and walking only one batter. Nola threw 103 pitches on the evening, 69 of them for strikes (67%). Nola now has a season ERA of 2.74 and a season WHIP of 0.957 on 46 innings pitched.
Chris Cotton was the only reliever on the night and he pitched well. Cotton relieved Nola in the eight inning and induced a ground ball fielder's choice to end the inning. Cotton then worked the 9th, giving up one hit, striking out two, and inducing a ground out to end the game. He now has seven saves on the season, an ERA of 1.59, and a WHIP of 0.824 in 17 innings of work.
