I'm going to condense what I normally post.  It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to post some of the numbers that I calculate when the sample size is one game.  I'll leave those numbers to the overall stats page. Here are the numbers:

LSU Baseball Stats vs. Washington 3/8/2013

Here are the stats from last nights game.  One interesting note on the pitching last night.  No Tiger pitcher got to any count with 3 balls, hence no walks last night.  That's impressive.

I've started tracking strike percentage for pitchers, so I'll start providing that in my tables.

LSU vs Sacred Heart 3/6/2013

After going for 13 innings in the first half of the double header and losing, one would think that Sacred Heart would have felt a bit down, but they played well against LSU tonight.  If it isn't for the second inning, this game is much more respectable.

LSU batted around in the second inning, getting 6 hits and 6 runs to break the game wide open.  The Tigers also had six walks to go along with 10 hits on the evening.  No single player had a particularly great game, but several players performed well tonight.  Mason Katz hit an RBI double in the second inning to break things open for LSU.    Jared Foster also had a RBI double in the 2nd.  Foster finished 2/5, scored two runs, and had one RBI.

Other than the second inning, things were fairly sparse for the offense.  LSU scored four more runs in the game, but most of them were due to Sacred Heart defensive hiccups rather than solid hitting.  Sacred Heart committed four errors on the night which helped contribute to the lopsided margin of victory.

LSU pitched by committee tonight, so we got to see several different guys in action.

Nick Rumbelow kicked the game off, pitching two innings and retiring all six batters he faced.  Nick had a solid outing and pitched very efficiently, throwing 26 pitches and striking out two batters.  The Tigers will need Rumbelow to continue this early form in order to do well in SEC play.

Hunter Newman relieved Rumbelow and had a solid outing.  He pitched three innings, striking out four batters and giving up one earned run on two hits.  For a guy that has seen limited action before tonight, it was good to see Newman get some work and pitch well.  The only earned run he gave up was off of a home run in his final inning.  I contribute that to his pitching style, which is to throw hard fastballs and to pound the strike zone.

Hunter Devall had a good outing, despite some control issues.  Several times he was up in the count and lost his advantage by losing his command.  However, he was able to battle back and get batters out.  He pitched two innings, walked one batter, struck out three, and gave up three hits with no earned runs.

Joey Bourgeois pitched the 8th inning.  He gave up a double and an earned run in the inning, but battled out of it by getting two strikeouts to close the inning.  I like the way he battles when he pitches.  However, this is his second outing where he has come out of the pen and given up an earned run.  I would like to see more clean innings out of him.

Chris Cotton closed the game and was Chris Cotton.  He struck out three and looked impressive again.  If we had three or four of him on the team, we would be set.

Good game overall for the Tigers.  Washington is up next.  Hopefully the weather inside Alex Box will be more comfortable this weekend.

Season Pitching and Hitting Stats Updated

I'm not too sure if anybody noticed, but there are a couple of side bar links on the side of the page that have links to current season hitting and pitching totals.  I will start posting more comprehensive season stats on those two pages and, once SEC play starts, I will separate non-conference and SEC stats for both pitching and hitting.

LSU vs Stephen F. Austin - 3/5/2013

Here are the stats for the LSU vs Stephen F. Austin game.

The Tigers had a very good night at the plate, going 11/34 overall with 4 walks, 1 HBP, and 1 RE.  The Tigers were only 3/12 with RISP, but this number does not tell the entire story for the game.  The Tigers got 2 unearned runs in the 2nd inning to open things up against the visiting Lumberjacks.

Andrew Stevenson hit his first home run as a Tiger in the 3rd inning.  Stevenson went 2/3 on the evening with a stolen base and an RBI.  I expect to see more of him if he continues to produce at the plate like this.  With Sciambra struggling somewhat at the plate, Stevenson could continue to challenge for playing time.

LSU got an RBI double in the 3rd from Raph Rhymes after Chris Sciambra singled to start the inning.  Rhymes went 1/2 on the evening, scored two runs, was hit by a pitch, and generated a walk.  A good day for LSU's most productive guy at the plate.  Sciambra was okay, going 1/4 with a walk and a run scored.

Mason Katz had a productive evening, going 2/4 overall, hitting 2 RBI, and going 2/2 with RISP.  Chris Chinea also added an RBI double in the 6th inning, which scored Christian Ibarra from first base.  Ibarra, who came off the bench in the 6th inning to pinch hit for Tyler Moore, was 2/2 with an RBI.

Overall a fairly solid evening for the offense.  One more note.  The Tigers did not hit into a double play.

The pitching did what it had to do and limited the opportunities for the Lumberjacks, but this was a less than stellar outing for the LSU pitching staff.  They issued a season high 7 walks and gave the Lumberjacks plenty of chances.  Thankfully, they came up with big pitches when they needed them.

Brent Bonvillain went 4 innings, giving up one earned run and striking out 4.  His only shaky inning was his last inning, where he issued two of his three walks and threw a wild pitch.  The Lumberjacks had the bases loaded for two batters, but were only able to score one run against Bonvillain.  

Will LaMarche had his toughest outing so far, pitching 1.3 innings, walking 3 batters, and giving up an earned run.  He did limit the damage that could have been done against him, striking out two batters back to back after giving up an RBI double in the 5th inning.

Nate Fury came in to relieve LaMarche in the 6th after LaMarche had walked two batters.  Fury threw just four pitches and was able to induce a double play against the only batter he faced.

Kevin Berry and Taylor Butler both pitched well to close the game.  Berry threw two scoreless innings,  struck out one batter, and gave up one walk.  Butler closed the game and retired the three batters he faced in short order, only throwing 8 pitches.

LSU vs Brown 3/1/2013

Good God in Heaven it was cold last night in Alex Box Stadium.  And it's going to be even colder tonight.  It's nice to have Brown in town to play the Tigers, but they could have left this weather in Rhode Island.  The Tigers had a less than stellar evening at the plate, only going 2/16 with RISP.  They were able to squeak out the win in the bottom of the 9th off a Sac Fly from Christian Ibarra.  Here are the hitting stats from the game. I will post the pitching stats after tonight's game.  If I can feel my feet.
